HELP FOR A HEALTHY DIGESTION One of the most common problem areas we encounter is the digestive system with a plethora of problems including digestive irritation, stomach ulcers, hiatus hernia, indigestion and bloating. We find that there are several products that can be particularly helpful but one that we are particularly impressed with is Natures Aid Slippery Elm Complex with Peppermint. This product is a unique combination of slippery elm (soothing and anti-inflammatory), marshmallow (soothing and antimicrobial), ginger (increases bile flow and relieves wind) and peppermint (antispasmodic and relieves wind). The product contains extracts equivalent to 250mg dried Marshmallow root, 200mg dried Slippery Elm bark, 150mg standardised dried ginger root, plus 15mg Peppermint oil per capsule and is certainly worth trying if you suffer the misery of digestive irritation. CARICOL The exotic papaya (carica papaya) is a fruit that not only has a wonderful aroma and flavour, but also has many hidden talents.
The first written reports on the possible health benefits of papaya date back to 1526, when these fruit were described by the Spanish historian, Fernandez de Oviedo.
Papayas are rich sources of antioxidant nutrients such as carotenoids, vitamin C and bioflavonoids. They also contain the B vitamins, folic acid and pantothenic acid, and the minerals, potassium and magnesium. They are also a rich source of fibre (including pectin).
Papaya also contains many powerful enzymes (including chymopapain and papain) that speed up the conversion of dietary proteins into amino acids, thereby supporting digestion.
Caricol is a preparation made with 100% organic papayas. It is prepared in accordance with the original recipe of the Lotus Monastery in Hawaii. After much work, the Monastery has succeeded in concentrating and enhancing the papaya fruit's natural digestive activity, by use of an extensive and proprietary process.
Caricol is available in practical and portable stick packs which retail at £14.65 for 20, so that the benefits of papaya can be experienced at any time. I recently have returned from a trip from India which was wonderful, however, my digestion was not! I started Caricol on my return and was amazed at how good I feel when taking it. DO YOU SUFFER WITH HAYFEVER? You’re not alone! For nearly 15% of the population, spring and summer are not just about warmer weather, but also the unpleasant symptoms of hayfever. Hayfever is usually an allergy to pollen released by grasses, flowers and trees in spring and summer. Pollen causes cells to release histamine and other chemicals, resulting in a runny, itchy nose, blocked sinuses, sneezing, redness and watering of the eyes, and/or a sore, itchy throat. Fortunately, preventative measures should help to keep that hayfever at bay. Don’t be an early bird! Pollen counts tend to peak between 5am and 10am, so limit outdoor activity during the morning hours! Check prevailing winds and pollen counts and remember that wind dried clothes can become pollen catchers. Hanging clothes inside will keep them pollen free. As far as diet is concerned, natural vitamin C supplements and quercetin (found in onions, apples and black tea) can also help as they both have antihistamine activity. Likewise, vitamin B can help relieve blocked sinuses. And don’t forget that herbal remedies can be very effective. Speak us at Natural Health on 01707 392020 or 01992 550101. LUTEIN HELPED TO RESTORE MY SIGHT
At the age of 65, Ken Smith, was diagnosed with Macular Degeneration, one of the leading causes of blindness. Doctors recommended an operation to save his sight but Ken was reluctant. Instead he looked for an alternative and now six years later, his vision improved, he believes he's found one. Ken, 71, explains: "My sight started to deteriorate a few years ago and in 2002, at the age of 65, doctors diagnosed Macular Degeneration. There was a black blob, that's the best way I can describe it, in my central field of vision and I could see wavy lines to the side. My right eye was much worse than my left, but it affected my whole vision. A specialist at the Kingston Eye Clinic in Epsom suggested an operation; a course of injections that would help to save my sight, but they were expensive and I wasn't overly keen. I decided to look for an alternative and over the next six years, tried a number of different eye supplements that were relatively ineffective. Then earlier this year I started taking Viridian's Lutein Plus and within a couple of months, I started to notice an improvement. The black blob in my right eye is not there as much and generally my vision has improved - I still get some distortion, but for the first time in six years but my sight has got better and not worse! I'm very pleased. Obviously I want to hold on to my sight for as long as possible and hopefully lutein will help me to do just that." Ken has been taking Viridian's Lutein Complex. It costs £13.80 for 30 vegetarian capsules or £26.40 for 60 capsules. NEW COUNSELLING SERVICE IN WGC
We are pleased to announce a new counselling service in our Welwyn Garden City Natural Therapy Centre. Sara Loveday has an MA and Postgraduate Diploma in Contemporary Therapeutic Counselling. She is also a member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy and adheres to its ethical framework.
Her training has included many contemporary approaches to counselling and, although her main focus is on psychoanalytic therapy she also integrates the many strands within this field to work individually with each client to address each person’s unique needs.
There are many different reasons why a person might consider counselling: sometimes there isn’t a friend or family member to turn to when difficulties are experienced; perhaps the people closest are the problem; or it is felt that judgements may be made or problems trivialised.
Sara can provide a quiet space for reflection away from the stress of daily life. A range of feelings, which may be hard to manage, can be explored in a supportive, confidential and non-judgemental atmosphere. By gradually confronting ways of being, fears or challenges can be addressed. This may result in gaining insight, being open to different perspectives and discovering new choices.
She has experience of working with adults and children/adolescents, aged 11 years and above, on an individual basis. She offers long- or short-term counselling and sessions last for 50 minutes, meeting on a weekly basis.
Telephone or email Sara for a confidential talk and to book an initial consultation: 07905 613494 or sara.loveday@ntlworld.com
