Hope you are enjoying a lovely summer and are managing to take some time for a bit of R & R (rest and relaxation that is!). Here at Natural Health, we continue to be busy sourcing new exciting products and treatments. The e-commerce side of the business is now in full swing and we are spending lots of time refining and adding new items and offers on a daily basis. See http://www.naturalhealthwelwyn.co.uk/store
Multi-Phytonutrient – our new favourite multivitamin! We have a new ‘favourite’ product in store which has made choosing the best multivitamin easier - Viridian MultiPhytoNutrient Complex, a two-a-day formula comprising all the nutrients featured in the latest up-to-date nutritional research. I really love this product and have found it really helpful during my training for an off-road marathon next week down in beautiful Wiltshire (wish me luck – and also a cool day!). As well as all the staple vitamins and minerals, MultiPhytoNutrient also includes plant extracts shown to be healthful: Grape seed extract and Pine bark extract have both shown to be helpful in supporting the fine capillary network, boosting skin elasticity and supporting the cardiovascular system. Green tea extract supports the immune system and can even help with weight maintenance. Bromelain, Co-enzyme Q10 and Alpha lipoic acid are also included in this remarkable formula.
With 100% active ingredients, no added binders, fillers or other manufacturing excipients, Viridian MultiPhytoNutrient Complex offers a pure supplement for every day use. http://www.naturalhealthwelwyn.co.uk/store/product/12049/Viridian-MultiPhytoNutrient--90-vcaps/
Wonderful Omegas I also wouldn’t be without the wonderful essential fatty acids. Omega 3, 6 and 9 in a 2:1:1 ratio is the recommendation made by many experts as the best ratio to promote optimal health.
With today’s emphasis on good health through diet, many people are conscious of reducing their fat intake as much as possible. Unfortunately this is often achieved at the expense of the essential fatty acids that are vital for the functioning of the body. The essential fatty acids are known as omega 3 and 6. Omega 9 oils (found in olives and olive oil) although non-essential, have been shown to be important for good health and especially cardiovascular health.
The most valuable omega 3 fatty acids are EPA and DHA, which are derived from oily fish. Vegetarian sources of omega 3 include flax seeds and walnuts. These provide Alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), which then has to be converted to EPA and DHA, a process that can be inefficient in some people. Blackcurrant seed oil is a rich source of stearidonic acid (SDA) which unlike ALA, converts easily to EPA.
Adding a combination of these oils to your daily diet is a sure way to optimise your essential fatty acid intake. All these oils are combined in a new formula from Solgar. 1 teaspoon is all that is needed for your daily requirements which is great for those who are concerned about consuming too many calories. As a special introductory offer we are giving a free bottle of VM75 multivitamins 30 tablets worth £8.55 with every 2 bottles of the Solgar Omega Advanced Blend purchased. http://www.naturalhealthwelwyn.co.uk/store/product/41071/Solgar-Vitamins-Omega-Advanced-Blend-2%3A1%3A1-150mls/

Macular Degeneration is an eye condition in which the macula, a sensitive area in the retina responsible for central and detail vision, is damaged, often causing loss of central vision. As yet there is no conclusive proof as to what causes macular degeneration, however some scientists believe heredity may play a part as may UV light exposure. It has also been found that modern farming methods are resulting in lower levels of lutein and zeaxanthin in dark, green leafy vegetables. It is believed that lack of these important anti-oxidants contributes to age-related macular degeneration (AMD) because these carotenoids are specifically concentrated in the macula of the human eye.
In a recent study the macular pigment and carotenoid levels of healthy eyes were compared with those from people with AMD. They found that macular carotenoid levels in the eyes of the AMD patients were 32% lower than normal eyes of the same age group. Following a high-dose lutein supplementation for 3 months the macular carotenoid level of the AMD volunteers had returned to normal.
Nature's Plus Ultra Lutein £26.75 for 60 caps (2 months supply) contains 20mg of a purified form of lutein (called “Flora Glo”) and 860mcg of zeaxanthin. These combine to form an antioxidant powerhouse that helps to reinforce ocular well-being and halt the progression of age-related macula degeneration. Flora Glo lutein is a purified form of lutein which makes it more absorbable than other forms of lutein. http://www.naturalhealthwelwyn.co.uk/store/product/13303/Nature%27s-Plus-Ultra-Lutein-20mg-60-caps/

Nutritional Therapy Success Stories
Paula Werrett has been working at Natural Health in Welwyn Garden City since 2004. Here is one of her success stories….
“When Emma first came to see me she was very despondent. Since the birth of her son she had been experiencing severe stomach cramps and diarrhoea which were particularly bad in the mornings. She had no energy whatsoever and felt achy and generally under the weather. Looking after her son was proving extremely difficult and although she desperately wanted to try for another baby she knew that her health wasn’t good enough and that she wouldn’t be well enough to look after 2 children.
After taking a detailed case history it seemed likely to me that Emma’s problems might be linked to an overgrowth of candida albicans (a yeast-like organism) in her gut. After a test had confirmed that this was in fact the case, Emma followed an anti-candida diet and took a programme of supplements to address the issue. 3 months later when we retested the candida had gone, but unfortunately Emma still had bad stomach cramps and diarrhoea. Further testing to assess pancreatic function, pathogenic bacteria and parasites was all normal. Food intolerance testing revealed a few problems with foods, but Emma was already avoiding all of these.
As Candida is often associated with increased intestinal permeability (the ‘leaky gut syndrome’) I decided to recommend 2 supplements to improve the integrity of Emma’s gut lining. From taking these supplements Emma slowly but surely began to improve and within another 3 months she had made a full recovery and was able to incorporate many of the foods that she had excluded from her diet. Shortly afterwards she began trying for another baby and now has a brand new addition to the family.”
Paula treats a wide variety of health conditions in clients of all ages including children. Her particular specialities include digestive problems, candida, weight management, fatigue, hormone health, fertility, children’s health and addiction. Stress, Infertility and Conception : How to Get a Positive Result
On the topic of fertility, it has been shown that mind/body programmes can contribute significantly to the ability to conceive – in one research programme 55% of participants using mind/body techniques became pregnant as compared with 20% of a control group. Other studies show that couples using assisted conception programmes have a 14 - 20% conception rate but that when mind/body therapy is used in conjunction with these programmes, the conception rate rises to between 28 - 34%. As well as higher conception rates, mind/body therapy results in decreased levels of depression, anxiety and anger.
The HypnoFertility program helps release conscious and unconscious blocks which may be preventing conception, teaches techniques to decrease stress levels, reduce negative unhelpful thinking and instills a sense of confidence and hope which maximizes successful conception. Obama for President? The Sunday People asked for the expertise of Marshall Bowers - our palmist - last Sunday July 27th. They asked whether Barack Obama would make a good president of the USA. Marshall said: “Barack’s strong little finger shows he has exceptional communication skills. His headline does not attach to his heartline, meaning he is extremely independent. His thumb shape shows superb logic abilities. Strong fatelines run up the middle of his hand. These mean his life is definitely mapped out. It also shows he is caring. His heartlines show he can empathise with other people incredibly well. I think he is a highly-organised, emotionally stable and very considerable leader.” Marshall is available to read your palm on Mondays in WGC. Call 01707 392020 for more details.
