Therapist of the Month
I thought it may be nice for you to get to know a little bit more about our therapists. This month I have chosen Kristina Watts. She is one of the original therapists who started at the Hertford Natural Therapy Centre way back in 1996 when we just had 2 treatment rooms above The Print Machine in Mill Bridge. In 1996 I qualified in ITEC Holistic Aromatherapy with Simply Herbal College ... and have been working at The Hertford Natural Therapy Centre ever since! I currently see clients at Hertford on Fridays and out of my home in Potters Bar at selected other times. On Wednesdays and Thursdays you can find me working in the Welwyn Garden City shop and I am also able to see clients there on those days too.
Since qualifiying in aromatherapy I have subsequently added reflexology, Daoyin Tao (Chinese Face, Neck & Shoulder Massage) and Hopi Ear Candling to my brochure.
I believe in taking an holistic approach towards my clients - this means that I treat each individual as a whole, taking into consideration their physical, mental and emotional well-being. The aromatherapy oils that I use in my treatments are of the highest quality and I "blend-up" for each person I am seeing (never using pre-blended oils) to meet their requirements on the day.
I guess I specialise in people who are exhausted, stressed, burnt-out or who just need a bit of "me-time", but I welcome the opportunity to discuss any of my treatments, particularly with those clients who may not have had a treatment before and are naturally feeling a little apprehensive.

Here are a few facts about it:
Green tea has long been known as a relaxing beverage, and scientists now believe that both the taste of green tea, and its relaxing properties, are attributable to its theanine content. Theanine appears to counteract the stimulatory effects of caffeine, which may explain why people drinking green tea often feel relaxed, despite the fact that it contains caffeine.
The relaxing properties of l-theanine have been investigated in scientific studies. In one study, human volunteers demonstrated that l-theanine stimulates the production of alpha brain waves. These brain waves are abundant when relaxed, calm and lucid and are common in states of deep relaxation such as during meditation.
Within 30 to 40 minutes participants in the study appeared to achieve a relaxed, yet alert state of mind, without sedation.
Drinking green tea is therefore a good option for increasing theanine in the diet. However, the amount derived from green tea is relatively small making l-theanine supplementation a good option for those looking to increase their intake, and of course for those that don’t like the taste of green tea.
