May 2008
Hello Everyone!

Hope you are all enjoying the lighter nights and warmer days - at the shops we notice that, as usual for this time of year, we are suddenly seeing lots of people with hayfever coming in.

Hayfever?
Do you suffer with hayfever? You're not alone! For nearly 15% of the population, spring and summer are not just about warmer weather, but also the unpleasant symptoms of hayfever.

Hayfever is usually an allergy to the pollen released by grasses, flowers and trees in spring and summer. Pollen causes our cells to release histamine and other chemicals, resulting in a runny, itchy nose, blocked sinuses, sneezing, redness and watering of the eyes, and/or a sore, itchy throat.

Fortunately, these preventative measures should help to keep that hayfever at bay:

Don't be an early bird! Pollen counts tend to peak between 5am and 10am, so limit outdoor activity during the morning hours!

Check prevailing winds and pollen counts and remember that wind dried clothes can become pollen catchers. Hanging clothes inside will keep them pollen free. It can be useful to combat sneezing, blocked and runny noses, as well as reducing irritation of the eyes

As far as diet is concerned, natural vitamin C supplements and quercetin (found in onions, apples and black tea) can also help as they both have antihistamine activity. Herbal remedies such as A Vogel’s Luffa Complex - which is available in a tincture or tablet form - can be very effective, particularly when combined with the Luffa nasal spray. Currently we have an offer of "Buy the Tincture or Tablets ... and get the Spray Half Price".

Don't forget that homeopathic remedies can help with hayfever symptoms. Our homeopath Aila Baron is available for appointments on Tuesdays in WGC and Wednesdays in Hertford. Contact her directly for more information on 0208 888 6536.

Summer Foot Care
As spring beckons many people like to shed their winter footwear, exposing their feet to the elements again after a long period of hibernation and neglect. Nothing is more unsightly than the thick, yellow, calloused skin that easily builds up on the heels. Not only is it unpleasant to look at, but it can be uncomfortable too. Thanks to Alva’s acclaimed international best-seller: Anti-callous Balsam, calloused, hard, dry and cracked skin on the heels can be banished, quickly becoming a thing of the past. A unique blend of the finest organic ingredients, including Tea Tree Oil, Manuka Oil, Sage, Thyme and White Willow, are combined with a host of other nourishing herbs and oils that help to soften the skin, hydrating it and helping to reduce the thickness of calloused skin. In fact it is so effective that dermatological studies a showed a remarkable 70% reduction in calloused skin within 21 days of use. Alva’s Anti-callous Balsam is suitable for the care of diabetes related foot conditions, and is also beneficial for the care of hard skin on the ankles, knees and elbows. And the even better news is: during May we will be offering 20% off Anti-callous balsam!

We had a great evening in-store in WGC this week with a local fitness group run by Suzy Fitt. Many thanks to Suzy for bringing such a great group of people and to Tina Watts for helping out on the night. We had Jill Preston (Indian Head Massage), Christine Kirby (Thai Yoga Massage), Carole Leonard-Morgans (Healing), Paula Werrett (Nutritionist), Penny Richardson (Beauty), Reiko Miyato (Shiatsu), Marshall Bowers (Palmist) giving a real flavour of their particular therapies, knowledge and techniques. Please log onto her web site http://www.fittlife.com/html/news.htm to see all the photos. Remember if you would like a similar evening with your friends/colleagues, please give me a ring as we would love to do it again!

Many thanks to all of you who sponsored Mark and myself in the London Marathon, we both survived without mishap, sponsorship is still coming in and you still have time to make a contribution for the Isabel Hospice at www.justgiving.com/juliegoodwin1. I am convinced that my relatively pain-free recovery was due to a lovely hot soak in A Vogel Atro-bath Oil straight after the marathon which really sorted my aching bones, allowing me to go to a trade show that same weekend followed by a gala dinner!

Well that's it for this month .... but be sure to pop into one of the shops and see us soon or check out our e-commerce web site on www.naturalhealthwelwyn.co.uk , as we can't possibly list EVERYTHING that's new here!

Keep healthy everyone! Until next month ....

Julie Goodwin
