| Plan to hand out Fish Oil to Every Child
| 27 June 2006 |
Daily Mail, Monday June 12th 2006 reported: 'The Mail asked a class of primary school pupils last year to take fish oil capsules for three months. Reading ages improved by up to 3 years and the children became calmer, cleverer, better behaved and happier.
'Conducted in conjunction with eminent specialists, the experiment found fish oil supplements had a dramatic-and at times almost immediate-effect, even on those with no learning problems.'
'Children were given doses of a fish oil supplement called Eye Q containing Omega 3 and Omega 6 fatty acids. The results, according to parents and Dr Madeleine Portwood, a senior educational psychologist and principal investigator, were impressive.'
'Here tests revealed the children, 7 and 8 year olds from Little Health Primary School in Potters Bar, Hertfordshire, began with an average reading age of nine months above their actual age. But after 3 months on the fish oils, they were reading at 18 months above their age./
'In addition, more than half showed a 10% improvement in memory, while 8 pupils improved by 20% and one by 30%. A third of parents said their children shoed significant improvements in reading, concentration, focus or behaviour.'
